Yukon River Morning
I set up my easel by the Yukon River on a beautiful early morning in March and observed the bright sky, snow-capped mountains, tall spruce trees, and bright water reflections amid the ice. I made a quick outline and created forms with bold, colourful shapes. It was a privilege to be out painting that day!
I paint landscapes directly from nature. My expressionistic oil paintings capture the strong shapes, tones and colours of mountains, trees, foreground, and sky. My primary influences are Cezanne and the Group of Seven.
I love to arrive at a beautiful scene and realize that this is where I will paint today. I’m fortunate to have so many wonderful locations in the Yukon.”
