Mendocino Sundance
Painted from a plein air study that I did in Mendocino, I was captivated by the golden light and this sublime moment. I wanted the viewer to feel as if they could hear the ocean and feel the air. This painting was inspired by the yellow and golden glow of the sunset and the cool silvery grays and muted lavenders of the atmospheric clouds. The poetry of the water and the air movement, juxtaposed against the study, bold and rugged cliffs, interested me in portraying this California seascape. I wanted the viewer to actually feel as if they could hear the ocean and feel the air.
