White Horse Mountain from State Rte 530 NE, Arlington, WA

This painting depicts a breathtaking sunset stretching across the peaks of White Horse Mountain. I encountered this mesmerizing scene while driving home from the North Cascades. The sunset was so captivating I felt compelled to stop, turn around, and pull over to capture it in photos and notes. Shadows from the mountain brought relief from the warmth of the summer air. The grasses were dried into hues of ochre and the low light in the sky transformed the clouds and horizon into a stunning array of pastel colors. Nestled within this picturesque setting was a property that epitomized the tranquility of rural life. I started the painting in the studio from sketches and photos and then drove back several times with the paining to mix colorsand paint plein air person and take more notes to use in the studio to finish.
