"Alentejo Heart"

Emotions and hidden childhood memories revealed by the subconscious. This work made me revisit spaces and times of my childhood that seemed too dark, but my subconscious revealed to be illuminated by the sun. My goal was to delve into my imagination, but also to access memories that exist in my unconscious. For this, I resorted to automatic drawing.
The boots represent a piece of clothing of the rural man, of those who work the fields. They are therefore connected to the earth, enhancing the relationship of the object with the Alentejo soil that I drew. The earthy tones represent the Alentejo (in Portugal) ground contrasting with the strong yellow of the boots. The yellow represents the midday sun over the Alentejo plain, and creates a strong shadow on the soles. The boots move and play with each other in the surrounding space , adding dynamism but also the emotions I felt when I was a young child playing in the fields.
The strong and contrasting colors of this work have an intentionally "artificial" tone that refers us to a scene and experience "outside of reality". This sensation is conferred by the boots that materialize and dematerialize as they repeat and move away from us.
