I painted this little piece on a roadside in Northern, New Mexico. It was rather cold at about 18F, if I remember right. It was difficult to keep the gouache wet enough in the cold dry air. I finished the sketch in about 20 minutes as I could not stand being outside much longer. I didn't think about what I wanted to do I just reacted to the scene. There must be a lesson there somewhere.
