Each week, as I walked through the alleyway to the National Gallery of Art for the copyist program, I was captivated by the striking interplay of elements. The backlit facade of the massive federal building stands in stark contrast to the sun-drenched street. Is the man leisurely taking a smoke break, or is the woman in a red dress walking away from him?
